Taylor Swift - Teardrops on My Guitar - Lyrics Meaning

The second single from Swift's self-titled album released in 2007, "Teardrops on My Guitar" was successful on both the Country and Pop / Adult Contemporary fronts, placing in the Hot 100 chart for each genre. At the tender age of 17, she became the youngest artist ever to win the Songwriter / Artist of the Year Award from the Nashville Songwriters Association.

Swift has said that "Teardrops" was based on a real-life experience. While a freshman in high school, she met a nice guy named Drew whom she developed a crush on. Drew had no idea that Swift liked him, and used to confide in her about his relationship with the girlfriend he was madly in love with, which broke Swift's heart.

In an interview with Seventeen magazine, she said, "And I just kept thinking: Why am I so invisible to him? Why does he have to have a girlfriend? I never told him that I liked him, but I did write a song with his name on it - so I think he knows now."
