Good luck, record stores tend to hold onto a particular staff forever and can be very reluctant to hire you. A friend of mine because extremely chummy with the owner of a indie store in Vancouver called Scratch Records. He figures he spent $6000 on CDs in one year and was on first name basis with the owner, yet he could never score a job. I've been trying for years at a place in Reno called Recycled Records but they just will not hire anybody. If you are fortunate enough to get your foot in the door, I would highly recommend expanding your tastes to genres that you're not well versed in. If you can help one person with finding a great metal album, then turn around and help somebody with finding a good hip hop or jazz album then it makes you far more useful and further secures your job.
