Smile Kat Vipers - Summer Bloody Time

This EP is not going to everybody’s cup o cha but even the most critical muso won't be able to deny the talent of Kat Vipers. Its rare these days that piano is so heavily featured in music. Of course Chris Martin plays it and that Ben guy on X factor and Elton John too but its been a while since a lady hammered the keys in anything else but a girlie plinky plonky fashion.

Kat Vipers provide highly technical jazz piano skills. Think more Tori Amos going nuts on a harpsichord than 80s power ballad. This mixed together with angst ridden lyrics sung by Kat Vipers herself in a highly theatrical fashion brings together a fabulous ****tail of passion and poetry that makes tracks like Pearls Of Wisdom an anthem for the disenchanted.

Freak simmers along with sweet sweet strings and harmonies that drift along like a storm about to break as deeply torrid vocals push the melodies along.

Pain filled piano reminiscent of Victorian music boxes explode into dark power chords and dark ranting in Like Mother Like Daughter and the EP ends in classy fashion with a fabulous version of Summertime The musical accompaniment to this song is nothing short of brilliant - intricate harps, clarinet and the odd brush drum accompany sliding feline vocals that give me images of high class cabaret lounges with Kat stretched out across a grand piano eyeing up the audience - who may well be a little scared of her!
