i have never heard an elliot smith song. several members seem to love this guy. which cd of his could you most recommend to someone who has yet to form an opinion of this guy?

Um, that really won't give you a good idea of his music. I'd probably go with XO if you want an album to get into because everyone seems to love that one at first or From a Basement on the Hill if you're just curious as to what he sounds like.

well i am currently downloading his self titled album. i may get a few songs off 'XO' just to see what they are like.

I think you forget that Elliott died before it was finished so it's not all his, i mean Ostriches & Chirping, wtf? I never said that XO was bad, but for someone new to Elliott is might not be, so Figure 8 over XO.

That doesn't change the fact all the songs were his and they were the best he'd ever recorded. Songs like Shooting Star and King's Crossing were much more complex and inventive than anything he'd done before and Twilight? Let's Get Lost? He was recording his best acoustic material at that point too. Also Figure 8 is much harder to get into than XO even some of his fans don't like Figure 8.

Figure 8 is a pop album and there for more acessible to someone new to his music.
