Default Crowded House - s/t (1986)

I can't remember if I first heard "Don't Dream It's Over" on the radio while listening to WHTT in Boston or saw the video on MTV (remember when they played videos not crap). Either way I remember having the cassette for this album and I would listen to it over and over again and I still do but on my iPod. Born from the ashes of the Australian band Splu Enz (I Got You). Neil formed the band and took the name from the lack of space him and the others in the band shared.

It was one of the first albums I ever heard that combined wonderful harmonies with different instrumentation, the songs jump from having saxophone to accordion in them. It was amazing. How can you not sing along to Something So Strong (an anthem to one the more powerful emotions) or to the chorus to Now We're Getting Somewhere.

Tim (who founded the Split Enz with Neil) would join his brother on the third Crowded House album, Woodface.

Rating 9/10

1. "Mean to Me"
2. "World Where You Live"
3. "Now We're Getting Somewhere"
4. "Don't Dream It's Over"
5. "Love You 'Til the Day I Die"
6. "Something So Strong"
7. "Hole in the River"
8. "Can't Carry On"
9. "I Walk Away"
10. "Tombstone"
11. "That's What I Call Love"
