Default The Boredoms

The band to propel "japanoise" into the awareness of American and European audiences have progressed from a Butthole Surfers-esque absurd noise outfit into a sort of psychedelic krautrock noise jam tribe and have made a shitload of great records along the way, as well as many side projects and collaborations with figures like John Zorn...

I have Super AE and Vision Creation Newsun, and I love both. I've been meaning to check out their older material.

Such a great band. Vision Creation Newsun is my favorite by them, but it's really hard to choose.

Vision Creatoin Newsun is my favourite too.

Without doubt, the best band ever. Unparalleled genius. I saw them live with 3 drummers, and it remains the most mindblowing experience of my life (musically).

^^ I got to experience that yesterday, it was intensely religious.
Definitely my number two show after Melt Banana.

Really really made me hate Chicago audiences though,
the vast majority of them just looked bored.
I was flailing around like a madman and screaming.

nice, well that's excellent because I'm seeing Melt Banana in June. Looking forward to that immensely.

Michael Gira supported Boredoms here, so getting the chance to see him was good as well.

Default The Boredoms

10 out of 10

A concert that good, can't even be described right. Too much was going on. eYe came on stage with two balls of light in his hands, and performed a stellar noise/sound performance that, by the time it somehow turned into a melody was already one of the coolest things I'd ever seen live.

Then when Yoshimi and 2 other drummers came out, all perfectly syncopated it was on.

eYe had a whole wall of boxes, contraptions, and a synth (he only used once th whole concert) in front of him. Most of the time he was banging on his WALL OF 7 GUITARS with 2 huge staffs! Or else he yelling into the mic, some stuff in Japanese and controlling the delay of it, periodically.

There was a 5th member who at first just seemed to be a "sound guy" mixing. But then I realized he too was controlling the music somehow, and must have had a sampler of some sort next to his 16bus mixer he rode most of the night.

I really can't say enough about the drumming. This was Tribal Dance music mixed with Dub of the future, that was beyond anything I had ever even imagined.

There is NO YouTube video or live recording that could come close to showing what this band is like live. If you want to know, you just have to see it and be there.

Literally, the best DANCE SHOW I've ever seen AND the best NOISE SHOW, in 1!

Oh, and on the encore ("Seadrum" I believe), when I eYe and Yoshimi both show that are actually INCREDIBLE vocalists, this band had just taken the show to the Nth degree.

eYe ends the show the same way he began it, by waving his hands around with the intensity of a voodoo shaman and the precision of a orchestra conductor. Only this time, rather than controlling some strange orbs of light, he is using his bare hands to conduct the pitch and volume of his fellow band members. Until he reaches so far back that the drone turns to a final high note and the drummers complete their final part of their 3-way 90min solo, and the show is over.
