Diamond Terrifier

Diamond Terrifier is the solo project of Sam Hillmer, the saxophonist and one of the founding members of Zs. The sound is what one can expect from a member of Zs: a surprisingly fresh take on old ideas and inventive techniques that wow the listener. In Diamond Terrifier's case, it's something of a drone/electronic/ jazzy genre that borders on noise.

Diamond Terrifier's Kill the Self That Wants to Kill Yourself showcases Sam Hillmer's creativity and willingness to give his all to avant-gardism. The album can get extraordinarily abrasive at points, fun and dance-like at others, oddly transcendental at others, and goes to a lot of different and interesting places guaranteed to take the listener for a grand spin. Hillmer's saxophone playing on the album is nothing short of brilliant and the accompanying electronica/drone atmospheres are great as well.

Here's a video of a live performance (Youtube doesn't have any tracks straight off of the album):

So, any thoughts on the project? Do you think that Hillmer is going to carry on after this album or will it stop at this point? If anybody wants a link to the album I can help you out.

Finally, some album tracks are on youtube.

Well, I have always though the saxophone very suited to the avant garde. He certainly find the guttural qualities of his instrument, though, I think the first track lacks any surprise.

New mixtape available to stream here:

This one has features in the form of Dapwell of Das Racist and Marley G. of Zulu P. DT goes heavier in the electronic direction and blends some spoken word/rap into it. While it's good for someone's music to evolve, I think I still prefer the debut.

I was pretty much sold when I read this. Quite a combination there.

I checked out the videos you posted and this guy is really, really awesome.

Glad to be of assistance. Kill the Self That Wants to Kill Yourself is one of my favourite albums of 2012.

Whaa? I don't think Zs broke up, they're still doing shows. I'm pretty sure they don't have the same line up anymore, it's always been kind of inconsistent. Have you heard their latest album "Grain"?

Dayvan Cowboy 04-06-2014 11:07 AM

I thought I heard zs disbanded last year, but I guess I'm wrong. I havent heard grain yet but I guess I probably should. Zs are awesome!
