If you meant me, then I hope you are prepared to argue this until one of our computers shuts down. Wake up and smell the feathered hair gel you arrogant snatch. I don't know where you get off refering to anyone as a moron when anyone you could be possibly responding to never attacked you and stated their opinion in a civil manner. Prog anything isn't the greatest thing ever. Rush is more math than music because they didn't step to the mic and play what felt right or sounded good, they did the time sig math, and while I won't condem any band who doesn't play in 4/4 only, I will say that when your movements have massive switches for the sake of having massive time sig switches, even if it was so you could add new syncopation, I'd still argue that its math over music.

Do you think Keith Richards gave a rats ass about what beat got accented? Does Johnny Cash change things when its every 4? No they don't, know why, cause it sounded good and it accented the lyrics.

Im not saying rush is crap, im not even saying Prog is crap, and im still voting for Peart, but don't ride in on your high and mighty progressive horse and expect us to all be as beddazzeled as you are because you just found out that theres an elitiest group of musicians that think thier king **** because they spent their lives in the basement with a metronome.

If you were in fact addressing this at me, I hope you recall I was on your side.

When are people going to realise that being technically proficient is just one SMALL aspect of being a musician, What about style , feeling , charisma , entertainment , excitement , emotion.

Neal Peart could be the most technically gifted drummer in history as far as i`m concerned , but there isn`t one single Rush song that sends shivers down my spine as much as hearing Keith Moon hammer the sh*t out of his kit at the end of My Generation

Wow. Anyone would be a fool to try and dissect that ^. Nicely done.

As far as the statements about prog rock, I tend to agree. Yes, Rush, Kansas, and the like tend to be a bit tedious at times. It's alright, if that happens to be what you're in the mood for.

If prog is your thing, that's fine. Nothing will get accomplished by trying to convince others of it's merits. People like what they like. Music is in the ear of the beholder.

I try not to make it a habit to smash newblets into leaving, but reading Urbans post made me wonder, "in what other art form does this exist in?

I'm not so well versed in other art forms such as painting, sculpting, but I know a thing or two about poetry, literature, and playwriting.

Im well aware that theres little math in the latter two. In the first one you have the ability to have everything confined to strict time beats and measure, and accented sylabells but to do only that would leave you unpublished. I mean, you couldn't put just well orchestrated beats in without passionate words. I suppose you could put in dull words with well constructed format but thats more of an instruction manuel not a poem. There aren't scales in words, you can't just have a poetic wank fest.

Is music the only art form in which something like "prog" exists?
