Ummm, because those songs were popular. I don't think that's completely true either. Local classic rock stations where I live play a lot more than just Stairway, but they also don't confine themselves to playing My Generation, which is by far the most overplayed The Who song ever.

Platinum is one thing but westlife are more successful then the beatles you know?

Not in terms of albums sold, gross popularity, or critical acclaim. What criteria are you basing this upon? Pop radio play?

Anyway some bands have fans that will buy anything but the Who's fans are more discerning in taste and probably more depth to them then Sabbath fans with their fangs and fake blood like kids at holloween.

What the fuck is that supposed to mean? That The Who fans are somehow aesthetically superior to everyone else? Well, that sure makes sense. While metalheads carry some negative stigma about their appearance, it's not prudent to discriminate against them for their appearance. And most just have long hair and a t-shirt on, not parachute pants and slashes across their arms.

The who were about abuse, growing up and much more then stupid black magic which the sabbath only come across as an idea by chance and had no knowledge of it like their fans think they had.

Well, if there was anything to persuade me of your narrowmindedness, this is it. Black Sabbath was a great band who explored much more intimate emotions than Ozzy's later music gave sway to. They were THE heavy metal band for years (and I still think they are), and while they weren't the most talented musicians, they were excellent songwriters and produced some of the best metal albums. To write them off like some cultist pseudo-intellectual band who got popular through happy chance and misunderstood fans is not only wrong, but it defames the career of all of their successors. Which, as I've already attested, is a fairly long list.

Ozzy Osbourne isn't very deep is he?
I mean, just getting pissed and going on about how lucky he is to not still be living in Birmingham.

Platinum you said. Westlife have records of more number one singles though.
Still metal fans tend to be a bit juvenile like to me.
Don't they go and shoot themselves or shoot schoolkids often?
All I am saying is that for me a good band has intellectual depth and tackles issues.
But each to their own.
It would be like someone liking a poet because they wrote poems about snorting ants and getting pissed.
People respect more bands that have meaning in a wider context.

I won't deny that years of continuous drug abuse addled his brains. But he was a great lyricist and a spectacular vocalist, and you shouldn't decry him because he's a little nutty now.

Beatles singles competed with each other for the #1 spot. I don't think that the amount of number ones really bears any justification though, since there are plenty of number one pop stars out there that don't deserve to lick the shit off the Beatles shoes.

Ozzy was credited with co-writing most of the albums. I just assumed that meant that he wrote the lyrics.
