The make Crowquill a Led Zeppelin Fan Thread (blues, rap)

He knows not what he does.

Somehow despite his vast array of musical tastes and his particular but open minded sonic palate he has nothing but ill regard for the Zep...what gives?

It would seem best if Crowquill first expresses his stance on Zeppelin as best he can.

Maybe I can explain mine? It has took me a while to grasp EXACTLY why i'm not a big Zep fan, and I have finally found my answer. Let me just state that I do like some Zep tracks. In fact NO QUARTER and TRAMPLED UNDERFOOT would get into my top 100.

When Zep reached their peak in the 70's it seemed that no one could touch them. Black Sabbath were still (essentially) churning out the same heavy riffs and DEEP PURPLE always seemed to be in the throes of line up changes and disbanding. zeppelin however were still at the top of their game. Unfortunately this had a detrimental effect on them. They became one of the most imitated and plagarised groups within the rock fraternity, so because I had heard countless rock bands before hitting the Zeppelin back catalogue, I found their music to be average. Their heavy blues reminded me of bands like CREAM, who I had heard before Zeppelin.

If I had heard Zep before a lot of other bands of similar ilk, then I may well be a huge fan. I was always more of a Sabbath fan. I don't hate zep;far from it. I just don't find myself listening to them as much as other 70's bands. I think I can also say that the whole genre of commercial hard rock that Led Zep was so good at is not my preferred genre anyhow.

I can always understand why someone wouldn't be a fan of Led Zeppelin or any other band, preference is preference, I just don't understand how someone could hear Led Zeppelin and thing, this is bad. I can't believe anyone could have a negative opinion about them, apathy is easy to accept, but I also can't understand how anyone could like 90+% of the rap music on the radio and it sells in the hundreds of thousands so what do I know.

I'm betting that Eazy E didn't like Led Zeppelin too much.

Not liking a band that is extremely popular isn't a crime, so i dont know why the **** you pretentious "led heads" think you need to try and enlighten all us poor souls as to why Jimmy Page was a god.

I just feel that they're immensely overrated. Like a few of their songs/riffs though.

The main thing is I find Robert Plant to be a very very very grating vocalist. I've never heard a song where I can tolerate his voice.

I found the more musically aware I became the less I wanted to listen to Led Zeppelin.
As far as bombastic stadium rock goes they are probably the best band there was. I just find myself not wanting to listen to much bombastic stadium rock these days , there's much more interesting stuff out there.

Led Zep I, IV and Physical Graffiti what's not to like? I'll admit watching Robert Plant perform during this era was humorous, since lead singers back then were more in touch with there girly side (and he was the most girly of them all). Nevertheless, these are the finest most varied and textured hard rock performances that I can think of. Page was an efficient, tasteful and creative producer, never wasting a note and always keeping the arrangements and music interesting and energetic.
