That, or just find early Floyd more musically interesting.

I won't deny that, I think the best lyric he ever wrote was for Jugband Blues, the last song he did for Pink Floyd.

"It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here
And I'm much obliged to you for making it clear
That I'm not here."

I do like Syd era Floyd a good deal, but it just dosen't have the same awe inspiring effect on me that the finest Waters era Floyd albums do, I prefer Waters to Syd as a singer, lyricist and songwriter and Gilmour to Syd as a singer and guitarist.

I know people like to vilify the band for the way they gave him the boot but c'mon, the guy just got to the point where he was impossible to work with.

I agree. And he wouldn't have gotten any better. Besides, when you dedicate a whole album to him and still sing his songs 40 years later, that should earn an unconditional pardon.

I don't know why anyone would vilify them I think they did everything they possibly could for him.

The way I always saw it was that nobody was fired or walked out on anyone , they just sort of stopped bothering to work with each other. He couldn't be bothered to show up , they couldn't be bothered waiting around for him. That's fair enough in my opinion.

And they looked after him well regarding royalties , from what i've read they were very generous with what they paid him so that he could be left alone to do his own thing.

I've been watching a lot (and I mean A LOT) of documentaries on Syd Barrett lately and that's basically what happened. It really wasn't a firing, Syd just wasn't showing up and when he wasn't they had Gilmour fill in for him. When he did it was sort of a co-frontman duty, when Syd sang and played guitar Gilmour let him when he didn't Gilmour did. Most of the time Syd just stood there completely still staring into the back of the room totally lost. I mean they even went out of their way and helped him on his solo albums there was absolutely no animosity there. It wasn't really a firing or a leaving it was a pretty unique and singular example of a member leaving a band.

You will probably never post again, but is it out now?

And half those bands are hardly indie or underground. Dredge is pretty ****in big as well as a few others there.

Default Syd Barrett comp

It's being released on 9.23.08.

And you're right, some of those bands are not so "underground" anymore. My error.
