Trying to get started in classical music (albums, Russian, j-pop)

Any suggstions on a good place to begin? Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

depends what your after... modern classical, or 'classic' classical :P

I think Bach is listener friendly. I don't think Gustav Holst is considered really to be classical but nonetheless a great writer. And of course Beethoven and Mozart.

Petrovski or Mozart for classical.

For modern day classical like musicals go for Leonard Berenstein. He did all of the music for West Side Story.

Try the Warsar Philharmonic - J-Pop Meets Classical Harmony

Holst - The Planets is pretty good, as is a lot of Wagner. Try to get hold of Beethoven's piano sonata's too.

As a guitarist....you should listen to Sharon Isbin albums...she's probably one of the best classical guitarists out there....she teaches at Juilliard and has won at least one Grammy.

You can always start off with the typical three B's (Brahms, Bach, and Beethoven), of course. I tend to like the Russian composers like Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, and Mussorgsky. I'm also quite partial to Listz and Verdi.

Hey man, you could learn a few random classical pieces on guitar, and trust me, the more you play them the more you'll start to love the music! Try Wholenote dot com and you'll find tones of nice pieces!
