Wilco is a fine band. What I don't get is why no love for Son Volt? If you force me to choose between the two Uncle Tupelo offshoots I'd have to go for Son Volt. They seem a little more versatile than Wilco and I just really like the way Farrar's voice sounds. Both wonderful bands though.

Why is this in the Country, Folk and World Music section? Who was the dolt who thought sticking Wilco in between Kitty Wells and Hank Williams would be a good idead? I'm surprised by the lack of replies in this thread. Wilco are one of my favorite bands. My favorite album would have to be Being There and my favorite songs are "I Must Be High" and "Outtasite (Outta Mind)"

How isn't Wilco country? You have a very narrow-view of music if you think country ends with Hank Williams that's like saying rock ends with Elvis. Wilco is alt-country defined. People need to stop assuming just because a band has the typical guitarist/bassist/drummer line-up they're a rock band.

Do I have to spoon feed the facts to you?

I wasn’t saying country ends with Hank Williams. In fact, I know far more country than you do. I was implying that in an alphabetical list of country artists, Wilco would have a tough time when placed in between Kitty Wells and Hank Williams in alphabetical order! It’s not my country knowledge that’s lacking, but instead your comprehension skills.

No, Wilco is alternative country-rock, which is not the same at all as alternative-country despite many people (including yourself) trying to use them interchangeably. Alternative country is heavily rooted in country while alternative country-rock is rooted in rock with a tinge of country roots thrown in. Get your facts straight, because they are not the same. For example, some alternative country-rock artists are Wilco, Blue Rodeo, Cowboy Junkies, The Jayhawks, Palace, Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo, Whiskeytown, and Lucinda Williams. Some alternative country artists are Guy Clark, Iris DeMent, Steve Earle, The Flatlanders, Freakwater, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Butch Han****, k.d. lang, Lyle Lovett, Gillian Welch, and Dwight Yoakam. Of course anyone with an I.Q. that they could count to would know this.

I’m not assuming that, I just know that Wilco are rock. You would be hard pressed to find many people who would label Wilco as more country dominated than rock. In fact, you’re most likely alone (except your pal, who has a vendetta against me as it is). The Grammy Awards nominated their latest effort, Sky Blue Sky, for Best Rock Album. Yes, you truly are alone on this.

Nice job trying to debunk my argument. By the way, I still like you because you're a Wilco fan. However, Being There and Summerteeth are better than Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
