Thats what im afraid of, and I think thats the issue with neofolk. They put a stonger influence on music and theres this over lying pretence that theres only so far that you can go with the music. Which is fine, if you don't make the music equal to the vocals.
I think the original folkies would have a major emphasis on vocal melody. I don't see that so often in modern folk, and thats what I think needs to change.

not all his stuff is samey. if you really like it then each song becomes unique. see i might listen to a whole punk album and i might think it's all the same because it's not really what I'm into. Seven Swans is so far different from Illinois. Illinois is all big band with lots of instruments whereas seven swans is a quiet more acoustic album.
