I consider myself well-mannered, and while I'm not stuffy and pompous about it I'm admittedly irked by the ill-mannered nature of most of the gents I encounter while out and about.

They'd do well to leaf through a favorite book from my shelf...

I thank them out of habit.

But if I'm paying to get from place A to B then I expect to get there, they're not doing me a favour by doing what they're being paid to do.

I totally get that. I'm usually thanking them for transporting me safely.
