Honestly, if someone wanted you to refer to them as... well, them... is it really that hard to make the switch? Regardless of your views on gender, how often are you going to actually be referring to said individual in the third person, especially in a conversation? Hell, I've gone entire bull-sessions without once having to say someone's name.

I think we should just call everyone "Pat."

How about people with more than 2 genders, I could go on and on and on and on.

On the rare occasions when I don't know someone's gender, I refer to the person by name. If I don't know that, I phrase my sentences so that no pronouns are necessary. As somewhat of a linguistic aesthete, I think it sounds better than using "they" or the contrived "ze/zer."

Ah, ok - thanks for clearing that up.
I think certain people would have a problem with you slapping an ass on their end...

Bull-sessions? Do tell!

Seriously: you can really upset someone by calling them he if they identify as a female, or vice versa, so using they or them is the best way to do it. Not to mention those names that could be either until you meet the person (and sometimes not even then) - Vivian, Cameron, Francis etc. We're not talking about written forms by the way...

And then you call that effeminate dude in your head a man and she goes on an SJW rant and we're right back where we started.

I was just trying to avoid redundancy by using it as a synonym
