I've always thought that Slow Train Coming was a bit underrated. As a whole, it wasn't as cohesive as some of Dylan's better works (which is strange, considering the strong central message of the album), but still contains a few of his best cuts IMO. Gotta Serve Somebody and Slow Train are two of my favorites.

I dont know about songwriter, but he is definately the greatest Lyricist of all time. Maybe if you don't consider Lennon and McCarthy as one songwriter he is, but if you do then he's second.

but as a lyricist no one can beat him. no way. he's the master poet.

"Saved (1980)"

This is a decent and listenable album. It's more true to his own sound than the last dylan album, most of the songs are just an acoustic guitar, an organ and an occasional choir. The Christian message gets very tiring after awhile, but as I said it's a decent album. More a Dylan album for the fans that anything else. I really don't have much to say on this album as it didn't leave much of an impression, not as good as Slow Train Coming and obviously it's no Blonde on Blonde but for an album about God it isn't so bad, certainly not as bad as the album cover suggests.

Favorite Songs: Solid Rock, Saved, Pressing On, What Can I Do For You

"Shot of Love (1981)"

Holy shit, get it? Shot of Love is pretty bad mainly because it marks the start of Dylan's downward musical 80s spiral however Every Grain of Sand is incredible and the other two songs I've listed are solid too.

Favorite Songs: Lenny Bruce, Every Grain of Sand, The Groom's Still Waiting at the Altar

I'm kind of scared to trudge on to be perfectly honest, because I know for a fact it's all **** from here on out, at least until Oh Mercy. =[

I wouldn't go that far. There are some gems to be found...it just takes a couple good listens.

Honestly, I can't think of a single Dylan album that is without at least one solid track.
