Just to say: I've only ever heard the phrase EDM here, so i've spent most of the while since i've been back confused as to what it is.

To answer the q, ambient or chillout.

Ambient would generally seem to be without percussion but then a band like Sigur Ros comes along that straddles both labels. If we are approaching asthetics from separarte genres then your description is accurate, however if we approach it from a solely electronic medium then the description is blurred. Ambient music has it's emphasis on a serene aural soundscape but that does'nt mean that it is always devoid of percussion.

This track is ambient but not neccessarily chillout. The bass line does not lend itself to chillout as well.
