Default a push in the right direction

Hello!

I'm not a huge fan of electronica, but I have heard songs with very catchy melodies and awesome ambient sounds...which makes me want to explore the genre a bit.

The type of elements I'm looking for are that of strong melody, and interesting sounds that create a sort of 'spacey' atmosphere (I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan). I'm looking for a new sound that takes you on a mental journey.

Things I'd like to avoid, however, are the typical repetitive dance club songs...like an 8 minute drum beat that never changes...*boom-ch-boom-ch-boom-ch-boom-ch* Also, nothing hip-hop flavored.

Does anybody have some suggestions? Thanks in advance!

^ check out daft punk, they are my favorite 'electronica' music. 3 good cd's to choose from. to me they are exactly what that style of music should sound like.

The double CD release from Cream (the club) Entitled FUTURE CHILL, is a perfect representation of what you are looking for, especially disc 2.

jgd85-I personally would'nt agree. I like DAFT PUNK, but there are generally more suited to a pre club atmosphere, and are too bass heavy to be ambient.

I have this album (Future Chill) , if you want it upped.

i understand, i just recommend anyone who sort of likes electronica to test the waters with daft punk. they really got me to start looking at the style of music with a different appreciation. i haven't heard of 'future chill' but i will definitely check it out.
