Default Mac vs. PC

What is everyone's take on the Mac vs. PC argument?

I'm a Mac user. I always have been, and I always will be.

I think Macs these days are more about the image than the actual product.

A lot of people get them because other people have them and they seem 'cool' but they don't really understand why they would need a Mac.

I find a custom built PC will far out perform a Mac and for a fraction of the cost. i dont like Safari, iTunes is crap, I'm not keen on the latest OS but it's slightly better than windows (well, Vista).

Also, the most common defense for a Mac is 'it's so easy to use'. Maybe (actually yes) but if you're having probs getting to grips with computer basics then you need to look into it before you get left behind completely.

I can see what you're saying.

I don't really think that was is better than the other. I use a Mac because I use ProTools and Logic everyday for work, so it's more convenient.

I've also used a Mac since Kindergarten (when they were fairly new. yikes!)

One HORRIBLE thing about PCS though, is the constant updates.
I hear that Vista is eliminating this problem?

There's the main problem with Mac users; they think PC=windows.

Vista is a terrible OS, if forced, I'd take XP over it.

right, but XP is windows as well.

are you saying you would rather use linux?

p.s. safari isn't the only browser available on mac. firefox proves to be the best and safest browser out there.

Macs are for people who just want things to work without having to custom build a PC. The computers are for people who ask, "why should I have to?" and just want the computers to work without having to worry about changing their operating systems (face it, Vista is ****). If they're having problem with computer basics, Apple Stores provide One to One training, free workshops, and plenty of tutorials online.

PCs are more compatible with more software as of now, but more and more products are being developed with both operating systems in mind.

Well you don't have to custom build a PC, you can still get a better one at way less than a Mac. I just prefer to custom mine so that I have what I want not what someone else says I should have.

I've used PC's before, and I don't understand really what benefits they have, other than price. Maybe you could expand?

You CAN get a PC that's much, much cheaper than a Mac, but if you're a regular joe who just wants a computer to work, you probably don't know how to, or don't feel comfortable with installing your own operating system, plus you have to pay for virus/adware/spyware protection, and warranties up the ass (an extended manufacturer's warranty + repair costs) depending on what retailer you buy it from. You may also want to buy a different operating system other than Vista. Eventually, it ends up costing around the same as a Mac.

You can get a new comp with any OS you want already installed.

The best anti-virus etc software are the free ones.

Even if you did all that, it wouldn't cost the same.
