Nico's voice is appropriate only for certain situations. I only like her when she is on a Velvet Underground record, or if she's singing a song Jackson Browne wrote for her(These Days and The Fairest Of The Seasons)

YouTube - These Days
YouTube - NICO - The Fairest Of The Seasons

For instance, this song: YouTube - Velvet Underground - All Tomorrow's Parties wouldn't be the same without her voice.

But as a group, god I love them. Heroin is one of the greatest songs ever. Even though it isn't the whole song, this is probably the coolest youtube video I've seen: YouTube - "Heroin," by The Velvet Underground

Arrow Velvet Underground, anyone??

There doesn't appear to be so many threads about The Velvet Underground (aka one of the most influential and innovative bands of the 20th century!) or maybe I'm just dumb and can't find them.
Anyway, just wondering if there are any velvet fans out there!! Then this would be some sort of discussion/appreciation thread. Actually even if you hate them, tell me! I wanna hear opinions (and possibly argue about them lol)

I've having a bit of a Velvet Underground phase this week, mostly being Loaded which is new to me. Its weird how they started as being really innovative and then as time went by started to write more poppy songs like other bands did around the time they started.
Sister Ray is just immense as well, i listen to it if i'm in a noisy mood.

Lou Reed disowned Loaded because of that very fact

Default my top velvets

VU has so many great amazing songs. My favourites must be Heroin, Venus in Furs, All tomorrow's Parties, Femme Fatale, What Goes on, There She goes Again. I think their best album was The Velvet underground and Nico- a lot of great songs on that. Anyways whats everyone else's favourites of theirs?

I'm also really hooked on The Murder Mystery off of "The Velvet Underground" album. Its so strange and confusing!

there are some classics on 'Loaded' but it is what it is, Lou Reed pandering to executives and being radio-friendly.

I find that 'Velvet Underground & Nico' is such a personal record to everyone that owns it, every song takes you back to where you were when you first really absorbed it.

y'better hit her!

Big fan, Love the Nico debut it's fantastic end to end. Someone hear said it right, Nico's voice works in the capacity they use it in this album.

Also molecules is dead on saying it's often a very personal record to the listener.

So true, I remember sitting in my parents garage listening to it with my brother and his friends. It's one of my oldest memories and one I often visit.

Anybody else remember there first time "taking in" the Velvets?
