It's all a matter of opinion. I don't particularly like Radiohead. I prefer Yo La Tengo, Blonde Redhead, Mercury Rev, Sun City Girls, Fugazi, Isis, and a slew of other American bands to Radiohead.

The British album charts are filled with such a diverse range of music, and this diversity means that seemingly anyone can change from an unknown to a chart topper within a short amount of time. This means that it isn't **** music that's being rewarded, it's good music (usually). Because of this British bands aren't afraid to experiment, because they know that as long as their music is good then it has a very good chance of becoming the next big thing. This doesn't happen in America, partly down to size of the continent as you said Expletive, but also because Americans seem to scared to change the formula. Your charts are polluted with Rap and RnB at the moment, because they are the only sorts of music that are being allowed to take the limelight at the moment. And this has been the case for a while now-before Rap it was Pop Punk, and before it was Pop Punk it was mindless Rock. America loves to latch onto a genre for a while and then practically beat it to death with huge amounts of airplay, endless amounts of useless bands and the like. While this happens in Britain it is way less of a concern and always has been. This is why Britain is better-it is not afraid to experiment, because it is allowed to.
Wait, so the better country (musically) is the one with better mainstream music?....

Name me one current american band who are just as good as Radiohead.
Radiohead were just a Britpop band who began to copy whatever IDM artists were doing at the time. I love them, but I'd rather listen to anything on Warp Records than any of their more experimental albums.

There are a ton of American bands better than Radiohead, they just don't get the same amount of recognition that Radiohead do.

That's the same thing I thought. It seems that Britain puts more importance on charts and mainstream music than America does, because most people I know (and not just people who listen to a lot of Indie) could care less what's going on in our charts.

Name me some.

And Radioheads music is pretty damn far from what i would discribe as "pop" in any way.

No what we`ve been saying is that bands that do try & do things original have a much better chance of becoming mainstream than they do in the U.S.

How does that make your country better though? I mean just that reason alone, cause out of hobojesus's post thats all I got he was getting at. Most of my friends and myself just ignore the radio.

Because my first post in this thread said that America does roots music better & Britain is more forward thinking & original and inventive when it comes to creating new things.

I realize that, but all I got out of hobo's post was "britian is better, because our mainstream music is better" which is crappy reasoning.
