It's between Swordfishtrombones, Rain Dogs and Bone Machine when it comes to my flat-out favourite though.
OK, this is the second mention of Bone Machine. I can't help but feel like I'm missing out now. Can anyone help me out?

Yeah tons, as I tell most folks, let me know what you listen to and I'll craft you one.

And by the way, talk about polar opposites. Martha sounds nothing like Hoist that Rag.

You went to the extreams and most people should start in the middle. Let me know what your top 3 bands are and why you like them and I'll give you 5 or 6 tunes to get drunk and melt to.

If you like Real Gone, then you'll probably like Bone Machine.

BM was the first foray into the current sound and style. Be warned though, he's going to reach into the Rain Dogs playbook at times on BM.

Songs like "Murder in the Red Barn", "I don't want to grow up" (Covered by the ramones, should be covered by the stripes), and "Black Wings" don't carry the bone on asphault sound of his voice.

If you want me to make you guys something, let me know. And would someone give me the god damned website that they upload through?

Given the recent outpour of support I'll look into a discography review after I finish Cake.

Rain Dogs is by far his best album, IMO. It grows on you every time you listen to it. Heartattack and Vine and Small Change also deserve a mention. I never quite got into Swordfishtrombones, but I've only listened through it two times or so.

Yeah, I'm still figuring out where to upload through as well. Pobodys has sent me files through mediafire, I think it is? I'm still very unfamiliar with this whole trading music scene. I downloaded my first yesterday. And **** yes on the discography review. Thanks for the intro to BM. I'm thinking it's the next one I pick up.

I recommend to everyone, to Youtube a few tracks up front. Theres nothing I hate more than not having a jump off point on albums. I'll listen to the two tracks I like in the background and get into the album through osmosis. Its how I work.

Let me post the 3 of 5 Cake review today and I'll start work on the Waits works.

Blood Money seems to be a popular record in most record stores I check out. Can anybody tell me how it stacks up compared to, say, Real Gone?

I got my first taste of Mr Waits tonight after downloading Bone Machine. The album got 2 straight runs throughs which was a good sign. Very exciting! Dicography thread sounds like it could be a gem.

mmmm, it doesn't but only because of the periffery.

BM was released with Alice, and so its a split album. Blood Money is amazing and has some brilliant tracks* (listed below) but its a one sided album. Alice got more of the flavor, BM got all the evil. Real Gone is, because of its nature, a more full album.

Thats not to detract from BM, its just to say that their different concepts. You're probably in an area where the musical culture lends itself to Blood Money more.

For example Blood Money is more metal than actual metal bands, so if thats what you're in to, you wouldn't mind picking it up.

Starving in the Belly of a Whale

Misery's the River of the World

Another Man's Vine

Right on, man. I appreciate it.

And I agree with your statement about Waits having a "more metal" capacity than actual metal bands. His heaviness and depth are a lot more impactful most of the time. When I discovered Tom Waits, I instantly made it a point that any music I would write would have to be truly heavy to compete with that old man.

If I make it to the point of being successful enough with my music in Tom Waits' lifetime, I want to have him come in to the studio just to record one deep bellow to lay down on one of my band's songs.
