First off his name is john petrucci. btw, what is the difference between fastness and speed? Personally I really like him.

I think Petrucci is a great guitarist, Dream Theater certainly wouldn't be the same without him.

From what I've heard(which isn't a whole lot), SRV > Vai > Malmsteen.

Well some judge best on how fun they are. Like you say, Malmsteen isn't really on your list of favourite songs but you give him some credit. Tis probably because he is really good, but not as fun as the others. Possibly why people rate Dimebag higher too, people could feel his music when he wasn't playing a melody at kazillion miles an hour.

To me thats what defines "Great" - Incompasses everything. Technical ability, feeling, versatility.

While "Best" should just be a label for the pure technicalities of a situation. In which people like Dimebag wouldn't really play any part.
