I just came here to say Josh Homme plays the guitar like a motherfucker. Great guitar player, obviously not the best. Page would be my favourite, not really a fan of Hendrix although anyone who denies his talent is an idiot.

I love Josh Homme as well, but sometimes I feel like he's just...well... making it up as he goes along.

Case in point: Scumbag Blues. If you don't want to listen to the entire thing (you should, great song), skip to 2:30.

Why do you feel like he makes it up as he goes along? I know he has quote a loose style whilst playing but still

That might be because he is known for his jam aesthetic. He...pretty much is making it up on the spot. Which is actually part of his appeal.

My favorite has gotta be Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. He's very unique and puts a lot more soul into his guitar than most...

Indeed. I'm quite a fan of his playing in The Mars Volta and At the Drive-In.

My personal favorite:
David Gilmour
I grew up playing Floyd, so he's got a special place in my heart. Just listening to him brings tears to my eyes. So beautiful.

And some other favorites:
Phil Keaggy
Joe Satriani

Jimi Hendrix is talented but by far not the best. There is never going to be a best because someone is always better than the next but Buckethead has to be up there.

This isn't about who's the best, it's who you like more.

Every guy says his favorite player is the best
