Yeah Rise Against is huge. They suck too.

10 million views.

For me:
Sebadoh
Daniel Johnston
Hum
I'm kind of reluctant to say Fugazi since they are decently big.

within the indie community they're probably one of the biggest bands in existence. especially for post-hardcore. do they or did they ever get significant exposure in the mainstream? probably not. but they certainly aren't underrated.

phrased that wrong meant I agree they aren't huge but meant they are certainly not the most underrated.

Default Those classics...

Quite a few bands from Australia, The Atlantics made awesome Garage rock. Seemed we were and still are to far away from the rest of the world. ):

Gotta agree Aussie music is awesome, but sometimes, ever so poorly recognized overseas, much to my annoyance. I'm an Aussie living in the USA and I hear SO very little of what's new back home, it's depressing.... I have to actively seek it out, which I do, proudly, by the way...

Australian music is kind of a recently discovered phenom for me, thanks to MB. Midnight Oil especially are pretty awesome.
