^lmao.

Music shouldn't be about being popular and fitting the mold. It should be good. This is the rule I follow, If it's good I'll listen to it. If it's shit I toss it. Makes everything way easy and it's the way it should be. Who gives a spit if it's mainstream or indie or whatever damn genre it's in.

So music shouldn't be popular?
That doesn't make much sense at all.

If music wasn't popular, nobody would listen to it.

I wanna get in on this cause this funny.

how popular a band is determined by how many people like it and to some extent proof of this is based on how many shows are sell outs.
Well the fact is most people (that is outside of MB) have bad tastes in music. I couldn't go out to say Tower Records and have an intelleigent conversation with an employee cause most of them just sell CDs and don't know crap about what they're selling. And the fact is they know little more about music (no genre in particular) than the consumer theys they sell to. And in today's world most people turn to MTV or Vh1 for music and the fact is these networks cater to mainstream stuff.
I'd like to think that most of the people here at MB know a little something about music and for the most part I trust the opinion of most of you here when it comes to music related stuff.
If it seems like MB hates popular music it isn't so. Most of the people here (including the person that started this thread) doesn't just limit themselves to what the tv airs, or what their local radio station airs, so their knowledge of good music is somewhat broader.
We can dis people like Hillary Duff becuase we know that there's better stuff out there.
It's not thjat we're against popular musicm it's that we prefer the stuff that you won't hear on the tv or the radio.

You guys buying what I'm selling or am I wasting time?

Peace

Hello Sir;

Firstly, I don't think I spend lots of time flaunting my love of pop music, this thread is based purely on my observations around music banter and how it's posters seem to enjoy flaming pop artists. If this thread was about me flaunting my love of pop music I would make a thread entitled "Hiu And His Love of Mainstream Pop Music". Secondly I don't know how you come to the conclusion that listening to pop music makes me feel superior, I think that you not liking pop music makes you feel superior and that's why you so love to "bash" these artists. Who in there right mind would say they like pop music to get street indie cred on a forum.

Good day.

In a sense I think technology is partially to blame for the blandness of pop music these days, providing you actually find it bland that is. Technology has disassociated the music from the musician.
Think about all the mastering and editing of a song that goes on before it's released these days, all this fine tuning equipment that earlier artists never used to have. I would donate a kidney to charity if, for example, Britney actually knew how to work all this stuff, and she did her own music through and through. But she doesn't, and because she doesn't she has to get some technical team to do it. As soon as this guy comes in and starts playing with the beat, lyrics, rhythm, the tone of her voice etc etc it's no longer solely Britney's piece of music.

When it's finally released, it's really only 10% Britney, 90% some backstage team.

And I think this is where some of the detest for modern-day mainstream pop comes from, this lack of authentication, pride and effort that still somehow makes them the hottest of property around the world.

I know all musicians do some form of mastering at some stage, but none go to the extent and overdose the way pop artists do. Musicians that genuinely care for music, don't become so completely detached to something they're putting their name to.

Just something I think about when someone asks me what I think of artists like Spears or Simpson. I guess this relates back to my first post, I can see why people like it, but this is why I do not respect it.
