^ I like them, and for some reason that's the one album of theirs I never got around to listening to.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

Voice of The Seven Thunders - S/T

Quote:
Rick Tomlinson, who conventionally records as Voice Of The Seven Woods, returns under the tweaked moniker Voice Of The Seven Thunders, a move apparently prompted by the discovery of an apocalyptic tome dating back to 1870, filled with various doomy texts and lectures. Correspondingly, the tone and temperament of Tomlinson’s material has shifted, moving emphasis from ornate psychedelic folk to more assertive, electrified rock variants often verging on fuzz-strewn bluesy ragas. ‘Kommune’ strides its way through a chunk of rollicking ’70s kosmische with a slew of searing leads – something continued with even greater period flair on ‘The Burning Mountain’, a monstrously good track whose modal wah-wah workouts immediately draw up links to the kind of psych-rock Finders Keepers compilations tend to dig up. The two longest tracks on show here might be the most interesting of the bunch, with ‘Cylinders’ offering a beautiful line in synthesizer noodling and tape loop-style effects, before ‘Set Fire To The Forest’ showcases Tomlinson’s guitar playing at its best, even slipping into a spot of muscular, splendidly produced krautrock towards the end. Taken as a whole, this isn’t actually too far-removed a departure from form for Tomlinson, with ‘Dry Leaves’ slipping back into a familiarly articulate acoustic instrumental mode and ‘Disappearances’ stepping even further into the ’70s folk-rock idiom with a combination of twangy fingerpicking and a full, gracefully delivered vocal.

*Needs more Dismemberment Plan

Motion City Soundtrack - My Dinosaur Life

I've loved these guys since middle school so I try to keep up even if I didn't love their last release. Only listened once through so far but has so decent tracks. Some reminiscent of Commit This To Memory. Kind of cheesy artwork/title but, come on, it's power-pop.

The Fall - Infotainment Scan

The Fall - Grotesque (After the Gramme)

Blondie - Parallel Lines
Needed a little Heart of Glass.

NRG - NRG (1984)

Obscure, wonderful and crazily innovative synth-pop/progressive rock debut album from Kevin Gilbert back in his high school days. The whole thing can be downloaded for free from his official website here: Kevin Girls - Audio Downloads

Dead Can Dance - Spiritchaser (1996)

DCD's last studio album, though a recent acquisition, has quickly become one of the my favorites from the band, right up there with their debut and Within The Realm of a Dying Sun. The brilliance of this, to put it one way, is frightening.

Klimt 1918 - Just In Case We'll Never Meet Again (2008)

Again, lots of scarily good music here, with elements of metal, post-rock and poppy shoegaze joining hands in some kind of circle of awesomeness. To put it another way, if Mew and Explosions In The Sky had a prodigal son together, this band would certainly fit the description.

This sounds interesting. EITS are good even though they bore me a little, and I like Mew.

Very very good call with that album. Indus is an absolute belter of a song.

As groovalicious and awesome as the Twisted Wheel Story and Golden Torch Story comps are (I've probably played the both of them to death by now), I've been looking for another good northern soul compilation for a ridiculous amount of time now. 3 songs in and I'm loving it already.

Old Pride - Pianos Become the Teeth
Aggressive hardcore paired with lots of post-rock ambience and dabs of "real" screamo. Good stuff, my favorite of 2010 so far.

Mono - Hymn to the Immortal Wind
EPIC.
