Summoning, Oath Bound. I was smiling the entire time I listened to this album... but not because it was really good or anything, because it was so damn cheesy! I usually don't listen to "tongue in cheek" metal, and hell, maybe this is totally serious, but it sure doesn't seem like it. I mean, atmospheric black metal with lots and lots of European folk instruments, and the lyrics are all taken from JRR Tolkien? These guys have got to be the biggest geeks of all time (aside from those nerds who play in power metal bands! )

Technically speaking, it was fairly pretty music. Washes of shoegaze-esque distortion and waves of beautiful instrumentation. And the black metal vocals were quite good. But somehow, when everything came together, it was just... funny. If you all want a cheesy as hell, nerdy metal, this is the album for you!

Pete....i just read the Demonic Death Judge is releasing another album this year

just bought the Limited edition of the new Neurosis album.....with t-shirt ....but i won't get it for at least another week .....from what i can tell the album itself is not different at all....you just get extended art work....still worth the extra 6 bucks

in also picked up a digital copy of the new Rome album.....but i'm still a little unclear as to how i fell about it

While I'm waiting for the new Godspeed You! Black Emperor LP to arrive I was happy to see this arrive on time today. It may be the most thoughtfully packaged and designed LP I've ever seen.

GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR - F♯ A♯ ∞ (1997)

And I also recently pre-ordered one of a limited run of 150 copies of this:

THE SWORD - APOCRYPHON (2012)

The Blackening - Machine Head

Yea finally got my first Machine Head album. Great slaying metal with killer riffs. Just all round great too. Fit for any metal lover. I don't think I can find any failure here. Also need to mention the drumming stands out consistently. An album that makes you seriously want to get the rest of their discography.
