L'ile Re-Sonante by Eliane Radigue

i adore Eliane already (absolutely love Jetsun Mila and Trilogie especially) but i haven't really delved into her newer stuff as much. this apparently is her last electronic album and whoa it's blowing me away. unbelievably gorgeous

3 Bar Ranch—Cattle Callin'
The concept of this album is great—recordings of fast talking cattle calling auctioneers set to hard and heavy black-ish, grindcore-ish, death-ish metal courtesy of Hank Williams III. Unfortunately the execution leaves a lot to be desired. The first issue is that the auctioneering doesn't really jibe with the music in any way, it's just sort of haphazardly laid on top of it. I wish Hank had gotten some Igorrr or Bong-Ra type breakcore guy to slice it up and make it actually fit right in with the music. The second, and bigger, issue is that the songwriting and playing just aren't there. None of the songs sound like much thought or effort was put into the composition at all and all of them give a feeling of being recording in one take. Nevertheless, I'd certainly chalk this up as a noble experiment and worth listening to at least once if you like your loud music really weird.

Here's a little sample of one of the better tracks for anyone who is curious:

After covering all of Dopesmoker by Sleep, he played that ^ entire album when I saw him live and I had no idea what was going on.

Jenny Lewis - Voyager

Knowing that I'm a fan of Jenny Lewis (solo material), how could I have blatantly disregarded this record?

Shame.

Jenny's SoCal tunes seem to put me in a sunny mood. Her lyrics have always been one I've delved myself more into, this no exception. Highly recommending to anyone for feel great music with slightly sad themes (heartbreak, jealousy, blah blah). This doesn't compare to "Acid Tongue" though. Much more shinier than that record.

very dense dark ambient/black metal from the cosmos. Band name and album cover(s) are appropriate descriptors of their sound.
