Pointlessly long songs? (drum, bass, track, quote, bands)

On Mars Volta's Frances the Mute album, there's asong called Miranda the Ghost (or something to that effect). It's about 13 minutes long and the first 4 minutes and about 52 seconds is all instrumental. Those four minutes annoy the hell outta me.
That song is pointlessly long and is part of the reason I regretted buying the album. That has gotta be my most hated song on that CD.

How is instrumental pointless? You may not like it but that doesn't make it pointless.

But I am a fan of TMV. I just think the song is pointlessly long.
And I do regret buying it. I paid 21 dollars for a CD by a great band and went home with a piece of crap album.

Dude..."Miranda That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore" has one of the coolest intros on Frances...IMO its awsome....fits the concept of the album perfect and it sounds awsome with the end of L'Via L'Viaquez before it...Links wonderfully...The same chirping noise at the end of L'Via progresses into Miranda

The intro always either puts me to sleep or puts me in a bad mood.
As an ending for a song the chirping is good. It's like falling action (the thing that comes after the climax)
As an intro it makes me angry. I don't know why.

I almost prefer instrumental music sometimes, that way you don't have to worry about how crap the vocalist might be. The vocals are usually the main reason I'll dislike a band.
