I agree: you guys can go read a book or a thesis: I want to hear a song, first and foremost.

Because we're getting to the root of the argument? This is generally how arguments go, no?

I got really tired of posts complaining about arguments.

Music arguements>>>>>>>>>>90% of the stuff going on this site lately.

Anyway, I like some political lyrics but some of it bugs me because of how cliche or unthought out it is.I don't listen to Rage much so I couldn't speak about them, I didn't even read most of the argument.

I'm just pointing out that it isn't really a music opinion any more - it's a political debate. Maybe we should be looking at the bigger picture and thinking that even if RATM's political stance and lyrics were the worst in the world, it's only one part of them.

Another reason for me saying this is that political debates become even nastier than music debates if that's possible. Not only that, but there tends to fewer impartial people when it comes to politics. It becomes obvious that some people won't listen to a band because they disagree with the politics.

RATM as far as i'm concerned are the ultimate hollow slogan band.
I realise what people here are saying in their defence but how the hell can you take seriously a band who's lead singer sounds like a petulent 5 year old chanting naive political dogma whilst being signed to Sony and appearing on MTV. There is no substance to it , the whole political thing is just a gimmick.
I didn't see them doing small benefit gigs to a handful of people just because they beleive in a cause,I didn't see them bringing causes to anyone's attention , all I saw was them jumping on bandwagons on causes that everybody else were talking about already.
For a so called political band I learned absolutly nothing new from hearing them. All i heard from them was a kind of naive 'Grrrrrr the government are evil Grrrrrrrr' rubbish which quite frankly anybody can do.

Exactly. I seriously doubt they would have ever been signed if not for the politics of it.

Whats interested me the most is how this thread has divided everybody.

See Plan-It-X Records: great bands, good causes, epitome of DIY.

Leftover Crack is the better version of RATM

I am not a fan of ridiculous guitar wank and Morello's style almost gave me a f*cking siezure because I hated it so much, this probably won't end your argument but that is my reason for not liking RATM. Whatever message was there was drown out by Morello's pretentious noodling and wank

My 2 cents anyhoo

The rhythm was pretty basic if not bland and Morello didn't play the guitar too well, he just ****ed around with pedals until it made a fairly neat sound. However the 3 seconds of okay sounding solo-ing due to the sound being drenched in pedals doesn't save the other 3 minutes of redundant, boring, and all around poorly written rap-rock hybrid crap.
