who are you to decide that you have given the genre a fair shake? you don't know shit. my gist is things you don't know you don't know about.

edit: i'm done 'splainin this needs to die.

You are the person listening, you know when you've given something a fair chance. Like you and Arcade Fire, you decided you'd listen to it a couple more times and then give up on it. I think it's the same with the listener and a genre, you can only listen to so much of something before you grow tired of it. But like I say, totally shunning a particular style of music is wrong because certain genres can be such a loose label. Always go back to the genre and give it a fair chance. But I don't think there's anything wrong in saying you don't like a genre of music, as long as you feel you've listened to enough of it to decide.

It's all down to the listener, and I don't think its possible for one person's tastes to be so eclectic they can appreciate EVERY genre. I believe even the most open minded person will find one genre they dislike.

You don't necessarily need to give the entire genre a fair chance if you feel like you have figured out all the defining elements of that genre and thats what you dont like. They band can still be good, but if you don't have an appreciation for the defining elements of that type of music, its probably not going to be your thing..

if you've heard 5 or 6 bands who fall within a genre or whatever, and you dislike them all, then why would you bother continuing to check others out when there's so much other music out there that you may enjoy more? I've heard 3 or 4 reggaeton artists, as far as I'm concerned that's it for me with regards to that genre. If that's narrow-minded, then fair enough, I'll enjoy listening to The Fall or something while someone checks out a hundred reggaeton artists just incase there's one or two he/she enjoys.

Sorry, it just doesn't make any sense to me. Noise is not the same as music. And it never will be. Sure some people may do it well in some people's minds, but too much noise, in music, to me is just noise. After a while I can't hear what I want to hear, the music.

Avey Tare's screaming is the best thing about Strawberry Jam. What's with the hate on screaming?

I can't hear any of the music past the screaming, and the music is what is most important to me. So I just don't like it.
