Post The difference between rock and country music.

Hello, I'm doing a project at school, and my topic is modern music. One of the things I have to do is write a bit on the differences between rock music and country music.
In this project I have to gather information from a variety of different sources for higher marks. I already have a few ideas for this, but I was wondering, what do you think the differences between rock music and country music is? This can be anything from timing to intruments used.
Thanks for your help and taking the time to read this and hopefully give me some helpful information, any information would be appreciated.

From Oliver.

In country music they wear cowboy hats.

In rock music they don't wash.

You sir, are sadly mistaken. In both country and rock, the music can be about anything and I also find that country music isn't depressing.

Unfortunatly for elite_longbowman modern day country music is very similar to rock. For instance, when the Eagles first came out, they were considered rock. If they came out today though most songs would probably classify as country. However, don't fret, you can still mention country music tends* to have a fiddle and steel guitar while rock music can use music synthasisers*.

*You can still be X type of music without these.

Country has a capital namely Nashville and is often viewed as originating in the south. Adversely, Rock has no true defined capital and isn't really associated with any specific region in America.

Fiddles and Steel Guitars are used in Country more than any other genre.

There are fewer subgenres in country music and therefore, country is often seen as less diverse than rock which has many subgenres.

The dances associated with each genre are different. In country, you may find square dancing or the two step whereas, rock can be associated with head banging or the twist.

The cultures associated with each genre are also different. If you like country, people might think you live on a farm, drive a truck, go hunting, and wear cowboy boots. On the other hand, if you enjoy rock music, people might think you live in the suburbs, drive a camaro, go to shows, and wear concert t-shirts.

Country musicians are often supportive of America's war efforts (with the exception of the Dixie Chicks). Rock musicians often speak out against war.

Mullets may be associated with both genres.

LOL. Also, clothing and hairstyles popular with rock bands may show up on country bands 20 years later.
