its not so much that they are popular that matters, but this was merely a thread saying 'of all the crap mainstream popular bands, which one do you actually think are worth a damn?'

his 'earlier work'? he released his first album like, 3 years ago, what do you mean earlier work? this IS his earlier work. next, i'm not really sure what song you're talking about in the above post. did he rip off an entire ray charles song and add bad lyrics to it? first of all, he didn't 'rip off' and 'entire song', he 'sampled' the 'refrain' of ray charles' song. Maybe you were unaware, but hip hop music is founded on sampling. Public Enemy sampled James brown on ITANOMTHUB, NWA sampled funkadelic and kool and the gang. its ridiculous that i am having to explain what sampling is to an 10 year old kid, but c'mon.
Stronger. The entire song is just samples from Harder Better Faster Stronger by Daft Punk, with Kanye rapping over it. It grows on you, but still pretty mediocre.

I'm not sure what all is mainstream, because I don't listen to the radio or watch MTV, but I'm pretty sure these are all mainstream and good:

Modest Mouse
Rise Against
Alexisonfire (didn't know they were mainstream until someone else mentioned them)
AFI- I even think Decemberunderground is pretty decent now that I've given it a second chance
Against Me!
The Bronx (they're on a major label)

Do you not realize what rap music is? I think I have gone over this at least 5 times with you.
RAP MUSIC WAS FOUNDED ON SAMPLING. Sampling is the hallmark of hip hop music, using the fact that a hip hop song uses samples from other songs to diss it is completely contradictory. It is a rap song, it SHOULD sample other songs. That is what rap is.

So what? To some people that's a good reason not to like it. It doesn't make them close minded, it just means they're not into it. That's not why I don't like it, but I bet it's why some people don't.

I also thought you would've pointed out that not all rappers do that.

Discrediting rap music for sampling would be like discrediting rock music for using bass.
Sure, not everyone does it, but it is a staple of the genre.

But if you hated the bass, it'd be a good reason not to listen rock music wouldn't it?

Sure, but not a good reason to diss it.

But where is the line? If I hated the bass, how far could I go before I'm "Dissing" it.
Could I say:
I hate bass?
I can't stand rock? (because of the bass)
rock sh!ts me?

If I hated bass those statements might be true to me. Aren't I just expressing my opinion?
