My personal go to is Charles Mingus's Black Saint and the Sinner Lady. It was the first jazz album to finally "click" with me. Bitches Brew is also great, though.

for me it was a Woody Shaw album but i can't find the name of it.....it had something to do with rain.

That was one of my early jazz loves too (I think I might have found out about it from you back when I was in high school, actually). These days I prefer The Clown and Mingus Ah Um. I love Let My Children Hear Music, but I've got to be in the right mood. The others I could throw on any time.

Thrust is great. It's actually the album that got me into Herbie Hancock.

Gorillaz - Demon Days (2005)

For whatever reason I started looking up some of the music videos for the singles off the album and then finally gave it a listen from start to finish. This was a pretty big album for the development of my musical tastes and definitely stood out on my CD rack which mostly consisted of metal albums. Before this album I really wasn't into much electronic beats or hip hop, and I'd credit this for at least opening the door for a few artists for me. I'm pretty sure it was the first time I heard MF DOOM and it was probably the first album where I really noticed what good production sounded like. I'd also wager it was the first album where I enjoyed all the songs and never skipped any, which is pretty rare for me even to this day.

Nostalgia aside, I think it holds up as a solid release and probably in my Top 10 All Time Favorite Albums.
