Default U.S. Compilation albums

Hi.

I've recently been listening to all the old UK 'Now That's what I call Music' albums which stretch from 1980 to present day there's so many classic songs on there I'd forgotten.
Was there a U.S. equivalent? I know the U.S. have their own version of NOW but that only started in 2004. Was there something similar that started in the early 80's possibily through to the 90's and present day?

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Just jokin jackhammer...but to answer the question..ive seen infomercials on TV for big compilations of the certain decades of american music and such. I wouldnt think it would be too hard to find them on the interwebz.

The mighty K-Tel was the producer of many of those type of lp's here in Canada. I have quite a few of them.
