Eh, I just consider any music I can't finish "avant garde", I forgot this is a Music website that takes these kind of things seriously. I'm with George Harrison when he said they "Avant garde a clue". But that's just me. There are some decent songs on the album. But songs like "The National Anthem" are definitely something else. I'm not saying I don't like it, the bass line is quite kickass, but I can't really finish it. All the noise...the noise... all the noise...

If you think that "The National Anthem" has any trace of 'noise' in it (by definition it doesn't, by aesthetic it really doesn't either), I'd hate to see you tackle a Mingus jazz album, let alone a Merzbow album...

I mean, the horns just produce chaos. Atonality. There's beauty in that. The contrast, the fervor, the uproar... Ten times more impacting than any smooth-faced instrumental bit off of OKC.

The National Anthem is actually the only song I really like off Kid A. The rest are OK, but a bit boring and lack energy, IMO. TNA, however, is a brilliant track.

I hope you realize, this entire site is to discuss noise. There's only one song I can name that doesn't have noise in it, and even such song, can be called noise. And no, I probably couldn't listen to your abstract jazz for more than a couple minutes. Why should I be forced to? I prefer tonality and tranquility in a piece. Is that really so bad? I admitted my mistake in calling Radiohead Avant Garde. I also said I don't really like avant garde that much either. Or free jazz, or any music without a definite structure to it. And no I don't want to argue over what structure means. Different strokes for different folks, eh?

*nerd glasses*

Actually, noise is definied physically as a collection of unrelated frequencies, whereas tones or chords as evident in radiohead's music (among most other artists), are most certainly related, and thus cannot be simply classified as noise.

You guys beat me to it...

I could dissect the post myself, but to be honest, I'll just say this:

Go ahead, like whatever Radiohead albums you want to. Dislike their angular material for whatever reasons you want to. But honestly, if your only retorts for why are these toddler-level comebacks like 'they're avant-garde' or 'i prefer tonality and tranquility', why even post? They don't inherit discussion; they're boring opinions that soccer moms have about music, and they just block off any retort. If I were to say ANYTHING negative about it now, you could just say "DUDE I HAVE MY OPINION BACK OFF MAN" (which you've kind of already done; in which case, why did you bring it up in the first place? To get props?).

If you're not willing to tackle music with an open mind (ie. "Hey, this song isn't playing with a melody, but maybe I could find positivity in it anyhow and not banish all of it and music like it to an alternate dimension..."), I don't see the point in frequenting a forum. By narrowing your horizons, you're just shutting yourself off of brilliant music.

Which is all fine; do what you will and the more power to you... I hope I'm not coming across as too rude, I just see this thing around far too often.
