^There's alot to be said for the immediacy of certain artists, and if something gets me like that it tends to be within my musical/intellectual comfort zone - however there's so much music I just couldn't stomach when I was 16, 18, whatever, that is just so obviously brilliant to me now. I agree with you on this one. Forcing yourself to listen and like music seems kind of like an arranged marriage to me. Even if you end up loving the person after living with them for a while, it lacks the magic you feel with falling in love with them from the start. If that makes any sense...

If I like something straight away chances are a few months down the line I get bored of it. I much prefer it when I listen to something and have to work on it to appreciate it more. Makes me feel like i'm getting my moneys worth. I first heard The Fall in 1995 and I hated them , now I love them dearly & would listen to anything of them I could can get my hands on , even really crappy sounding bootlegs. |
