Tell why you like your favorite genre... (lyrics, alternative, drum)

Okay late 80's my fave genre was thrash and death metal.

In the 90's it was alternative rock and Punk.

These days it is Breakbeat. I guess after many years of obsessing over guitar based bands, the whole electronic thing has really revitalised my love for music, it is like I am starting all over again.

I like breaks over other EDM because of the varied beats, the mind shattering bass and the trippin sounds that are often incorporated into the music. Breaks can be as heavy as most guitar based bands or it can be more funky and groovin than any other form of EDM.

Evil Nine
Stanton Warriors
Krafty Kuts
Plump DJs

Progressive rock.

It's hard to explain. I'm not a muso or anything like that (something Urban has called me more than a few times), I just love it, I do appreciate musicians with chops, though if thats all I cared about I would be a metalhead.

I love prog for several reasons. One is that its so diverse, it's a melting pot of nearly every genre. And I love how bands like Yes and Ozric Tentacles can dabble in different styles in the confines of just one song, and then add structure to it and actually make it fit. And I love how bands like Gentle Giant use so many instruments for unconventional methods. Producing something completely new.

I'm attracted to music thats unusual and dosen't sound like it came from this planet. Stuff that has an ethereal quality to it. Music that can take any kind of sound imaginable and make something with it.

Do you mean ambient breakbeat? There's no such thing as just breakbeat. If you did mean ambient breakbeat, then none of those artists are ambient breakbeat. I'll give you my favorites as a representation of the style:

Why don't you go here Breaks - inthemix Forums and tell them them that the form of music that they love actually doesn't exist.

or even here to a MB thread Breakbeats rule!! tell him, "no sorry dude they don't rule, actually it is all in your imagaination breakbeat dance music does not exist."

Well yes a breakbeat is a type of beat, Breakbeat dance music (also called breaks or Nu Breaks) is often called breakbeat (around here anyway). None of those artists you just mentioned are breaks.

Honestly, recently i have been getting into a lot of electronic and dance music.. as a lover of rock music, i also have learnt the art of djing (maybe this has something to do w it..)

but out of all dance music i love Breakbeats and Hip Hop

First one of the reasons i love dance music is how interesting the music is.. and how experimental it can get.. honestly to gain the respect of most of the biggest names in dance/electronica you have to do something different and original... which is what i love about it...

I have always wanted to think Progressive rock, but that doesnt work.

No specific genre is the best, granted there is a best for particular moods. Like when im feeling blue i wouldn't turn on some reggae, and if im calm and laid back i wouldn't put on some metal. Ya know what i mean?

If i had to answer it though in terms of what i listen to the most, classic rock it is.

I can't really name a specific sub-genre of music, mostly because I haven't kept up with them as there are so many. But I'm really into rock and metal. I'm to scattered brained to listen to slow music for too long, and I like the vibe and energy that rock portrays. Who hasn't been riding in their car and heard a great guitar riff or growling metal vocals and suddenly found themselves going 60 mph on a residential street? It's great for the gym or for getting me pumped up and motivated. It makes me crazy and ready to go! It makes me feel better when I'm angry or pissed about something, and it makes me happy when I'm having a slow day.

In short, I just love it!

well... I can adapt to virtually all genres but listening to them depends on my mood for the day... I chose ballad and slow r n' b when I want to go sentimental...and the list goes on... and on.. and on... =D

My favorite would have to be the hip/trip-hop genre simply because the experimentation is endless and you can do things lyrically that you really can't do with other forms of music. I prefer the more solid imagery of rappers like Mos Def and Nas to the abstract lyrics of Tom Yorke (although Radiohead is one of my favorite bands). Also, with trip-hop, you can really combine different sounds to form a single, unified, unique song which I think is cool.
