I think it's a formal rule. It's just there so i don't have a newbie come and make a nomination and then never come back. Thing is a can trust you to come back and back up your claim so yeah, feel free to nominate

Thanks

I'll 'reserve' to nominate Pink Floyd then (since the Beatles were taken).

Might have to fight Jackhammer for them, though i haven't had a PM so The Beatles are still on the table.

I thought that reserved it. I don't need to reserve Pink Floyd then.

I don't know, am I missing something here? Maybe I'm just put off by the fascistic comments that people who don't vote "yes" for Zeppelin are ignorant. If the only goal is to honor influential musicians, there really doesn't need to be a poll at all.

This is the MusicBanter Hall of Fame and inductions are meant to reflect the tastes of MB members.
Maybe if the people who vote no added a little effort as to why they voted no, then the comments might be less "fascistic".

I'm sorry, I figured 'Hall of Fame' as the hall of famous musicians. Not a list of favorites. Sort of like the baseball hall of fame.

As far as voting "no," I have to pull out two quotes from Elvis Costello, because they summarize my feelings perfectly:

"I hate people like Led Zeppelin, not because they're total charlatans and thieves, but because it actually offends me...the whole crotch-thrusting element."

"There are two kinds of rock and roll that are artistically bankrupt to me. One's the wimpy, "fuck me, I'm sensitive" Jackson Browne school of seduction, and the other is "Look at me, I've got a hairy chest and a big willy!" Led Zeppelin type."

Apart from any idealistic offenses, I can't say that I enjoy their music. There are bands with poor ideas and no real merit (ELO comes to mind), but I enjoy some of their songs. I haven't heard a single Zep song that I even remotely enjoy listening to. I don't care for screechy vocals and guitar solos. The fact that their music represents a school of rock that I personally detest isn't the reason why I don't like them, but it doesn't help much either. I think the world would be better off if Stairway To Heaven was never played again, but hey, that's just me.

I don't care how you vote and you owe me no explanations. Your opinion is valid because you take the time to express it.

Still I could not relate less to your interpretation of Zeppelin's music and would guess you've never given a full album a listen, not that it would matter, but you sound like you're describing a whole other band then the one I listen to.

John Bonham
Jimmy Page
John Paul Jones
Robert Plant

Four pretty talented musicians who together created a signature sound that stood apart from any other band back in the 70's when they were the most famous band in the world. Their body of work is amazing as well, how many other bands put out so many great albums/songs that people still talk about 30+ years later? Truly deserving of the MB Hall of Fame, good choice JJJ.
