Default Best Independent Bands in Boston/NYC

Hey guys - I was wondering which bands you think are the best independent bands in Boston and New York. There are so many bands that play at places like the Middle East, Arlenes Grocery, Knitting Factory, etc. Have you seen any good live shows lately?

Don't know very many, but Audible Mainframe is an awesome live hip hop band from Boston. If you're a fan of the Roots or The Blend then you'll love these guys

In Boston you need to check out Bone Gunn. I cannot say enough good things about this band and especially their live show. Ridiculously high energy. I've seen them a couple of times and never been at all let down. The music is kind of weird but definitely grows on you. It is legitimately original... and by that I don't mean that they are a Radiohead or Mars Volta tribute band like most "highly original" bands of today. Lots of variety within the set... seriously... Check it out.

For something completely different from that, on a more folky tip, a girl named Ali McGinley is one of the best up and coming songwriters of today. Solo acoustic type of thing. I know... chick with acoustic guitar... but her songs are beautiful and VERY catchy. I mean... amazing. Enjoy!

Good call on Audible Mainframe. The Roots is one of my favorite bands...very similar to those guys. As for Bone Gunn, it was definitely a different kind of music. Thanks for the suggestions guys, I really appreciate it.

I don't know if they are "independent" enough for you but "world inferno friendship society" kicks more a** then an a@@ kicking machine. If you want to see a crazy live show they are worth checking out. They are based out of new york and play boston a good bit.

Dave Tree's new band "SUPERPOWER" is a good punk/hardcore band that plays all around boston. I can't find there website or myspace for some reason.....

If you are into heavier stuff there is a band from Rhode Island called "Daughters" that tour around Boston and New York a good bit.

anyway thats what I can think of off the top of my head if you could say what kind of music you dig I could narrow it down.

I like the stuff they have on the myspace. But its hard to believe that they put on a "high energy" show. I do see what you mean about doing something original. but high energy????
