It's not free but you might want to look into Rhapsody, it's a music subscription service that allows you access to pretty much any song you can imagine. They have an app for smartphones that lets subscribers download as many albums as they want and listen to them offline. The only downside is the app, at least the iphone one pretty sucks up a lot of battery life.

I mainly use torrents and sites like mediashare to download music, but that's not legal obviously. When I want to listen to music online I use grooveshark .
What I can't find, I usually find with Soulseek. It's an awfully bad piece of software, but it helps me to find the most obscure music you can think of.

Ah these are all easy. Here's a challenge, find a free music site that's not blocked in the middle east. Go!

You can check out SoundCloud .. it is an online audio distribution platform which allows musicians to collaborate, promote and distribute their music. You can't download any of it as far as i'm aware but its simular to grooveshark in terms of its capabilities.

The only difference is that local artists from all over the world post their music on there as well to get the word out.. I have heard some pretty incredible things..

Two I like:

Internet Archive: Digital Library of Free Books, Movies, Music & Wayback Machine

UbuWeb (avant-garde only, but also has ****loads in term of surreal film, and other goodies.)

When Al Pacino was considered for the role of John Rambo, he turned it down when his request that Rambo be more of a madman was rejected.

I quite like Jamendo. Bandcamp also has quite a few free/low cost releases.

Rob Walmart, steal money, buy iTunes giftcards, use them to support indie labels.

I have compiled the list into the initial post, and will continue to do so as we get more entries. PM me if I don't stay on top of it or if you want any changes
