are you kidding they make bad ass music. let's not forget that when they make an album they might have 20 songs and weed a few out where as most other bands make so many tracks and start cutting left and right.

you do know that they chose by POPULARITY right?
they dont ask three judges to sit in a seat all day and listen to bands that cant play and then choose the ones that suck the least.
occasionaly they find a star but thats only every like 4 years
(hmm that sounds firmiliar...)
anyway, im new to "cultured music" (whatever the hell that is) and perhaps need suggestions as to what ISNT phony, monotonous, cheesy and every ohter word these high and mighty *******s, use to describe Coldplay
( feel free to stand up and clap, say "amen", and have seizures as the gospell music starts to play in your heads)

Good to see to love/hate divide with Coldplay still exists strongly on these here boards!
I still personally grow to love Viva La Vida with every listen and I am not done yet, thats for sure! I still say Coldplay are a band going to good places if they can keep heaading in their current direction...

Really? Because I think X & Y is mostly boring apart from a few songs.

nah see i guess its a personal thing but i find the distinction between X&Y and Viva la Vida is that X&Y is chill but nice where Viva la Vida is just in between for me, its slow rock, offering nothing to the table, bland, mediocre, but its just a taste thing i suppose

Most of the music is very laid back but also has this sort of rock to it.
I don't think I'd consider them "coffee-table music"

Coldplay have been dubbed the 'new U2' but I don't agree. I've always debated how much of Coldplay I can take, some days I enjoy it, others I don't.

How anyone coukd find Viva more boring than X&Y is beyond me! X&Y is the very definition of cookie cutter Coldplay... tracks don't vary much between ballads and rock ~ ish numbers alternated amongst each other.About half way through I find myself totally tuned out of that album...

Viva on the other hand, keeps me interested and wanting more! Every new song seems to take a new angle or approach, whether it be gentle, rocking out or plain spacey... every song is new and full of character... truly a triumph for the band in myopnion!
