You're on a forum filled with music nerds with romantic notions of what being a musician is. So of course they're going to tell you age doesn't matter. Age isn't going to stop you, but at 23 you need to shit or get off the pot. Sure, there are plenty of older people who've made it big later in life, but it's definitely not the rule. So don't let these people blow smoke up your ass.

Even more importantly however, is that if you commit the next few years of your life, and I mean really commit, and then it doesn't work out, you may very well be SOL as far as alternate career choices go. You can't tour and keep a steady job, or be anything but a part-time student. You don't want to be flipping burgers at age 30 just cause you never really asked yourself if you were willing to take that risk.

If I don't make it by age 27-30, I'm just going to commit suicide. That's my backup plan. Lol

I'm going to assume you're being funny and aren't actually delusional.

Nah, gotta kill yourself before you reach thirty. When your armpit hairs start turning grey, it's over.

Age isn't your problem.
Nobody caring about rock stars is your problem.

Seriously name me a list of 10 household name millionaire rock stars that have appeared in the last 14 years.

It's 2014, people care about reality TV stars now, not rock stars.

PLUS there is a coup de grace to all this:

The New Business Model may no longer require major labels and millionaire rock stars, but it gives anybody - ANYBODY! - with a lot of drive and computer savvy the opportunity to get a small piece of the pie on their own merits. Now, a person that would have been old, hairy, and ugly in the homogonized days-of-major-label yore can create a small niche for themselves in a worldwide market (thanks to the internet) and - Bonus! - if a song, video, or album goes viral
