Is it legal ro take the files from an audio cd I own, possibly break them up and listen to them on my mp3 player?

It's only illegal once you give it to someone else. Even then, it falls under the "things that are technically illegal but that the government really doesn't care or do much about."

It's only illegal if you get caught.

It's only illegal if you give the songs to someone else for free while keeping them yourself. With that said, why do you give a ****. I mean it's not like the government is monitoring your mp3 player and is going to arrest you the moment you put the songs on it...

Or are they?

Then shouldn't you be asking if it's morally wrong instead of if it's illegal?

No one thinks you're a bad person for wanting to listen to music you've bought on CD on your MP3 player.
