The worst albums of all time?

I think the real reason you hate U2 so much is because maybe more than any other band they represent marketing over substance. They're marketed as serious introspective rock but under a very thin facade they're shallow and empty. It's not so bad that they offer so little. That's commonplace in pop culture. Their crime is using capitalism so effectively while supposedly being against everything that they really are. They're not even fun to hate. They're everything that's wrong with America and they're not even ****ing American. They made millions appropriating a culture that only exists through capitalist manufacturing.

I spent an entire day in 1985 watching Live Aid live. Second to Queen's performance was U2. Again, it was 3 decades ago. Take off your ****ing jaded glasses punks. One of the best rock/pop rythym sections ever. Bono evocking both The Stones and and Lou Reed at the end is killer.

I remember playing that on public radio and Negativland intentionally mislabeled the record so DJ's would end up playing the profanity laden version on the radio. Since they got no commercial airplay it seemed like a stupid prank as we were all barely keeping those stations afloat back then when it really mattered. That record also pissed Greg Ginn who felt like Negativland were exploiting his hands off approach to do an obvious marketing ploy that would almost certainly land SST out of business.

It's still great parody but they should have gone at it alone.

Escape from Noise is a great record.

Yeah, they've certainly done their time exploiting copyright and pulling the middle finger to the commercial industry (sometimes the industry does it to themselves too in the most ironic ways).

I admire them to bits and their records are fun as hell!

Their U2 debacle is so ironic, I love it

I remember when you played it in plug. The rhythm section is fine I suppose, doesn't exactly grab me though. What drives it over the edge is how Bono's voice still annoys the hell out of me. That might make my taste jaded, but I have no idea how to turn that off. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. There's nothing wrong with you liking them mate, plenty of people do.

I was never the biggest fan of U2, though I do love The Joshua Tree and I have their greatest hits, which is generally all great. I do love the idea however that a band that became that huge came out of Ireland. Up to then, our best claim was Thin Lizzy, and some people still referred to them as a British band. I like that we can produce world class (whether you like them or not, they've succeeded massively on the world stage) acts, being such a small and basically insular country.

Hey, at least they ain't Jedward!
