If your favorite Springsteen track isn't on Nebraska you need to go back to school.

I have two very shameful examples of artists that I very stupidly rejected until I got schooled. Forgive me Lord, but the first was Lead Belly. The second was Weather Report.

God, that's embarrassing.

Anyway, with the mood I was in, glacially slow, heavy-ass, beatless, melancholy guitar drones were the last thing in the world I was in the mood for, and so I came away from the show hating SunnO))). For quite a while I considered them the worst band I had ever heard—in fact, they kind of became my benchmark for awful bands. But the funny thing is that I thought of them as the nadir of music long enough that it started to make me curious about them. Eventually, I got so curious that, two years after I had seen them, I bought one of their albums. Not only did I end up liking it, and getting more of their albums, but reading about them is what introduced me to Earth, who ended up being among my favorite bands.
I dig this story. I can never imagine me liking Drone Metal at the moment, actually.

Yeah, it's by far his best album. I can't pick a single favorite from it, but my top three are probably "Highway Patrolman", "State Trooper", and "My Father's House".

Dizzee Rascal
The Streets

Didn't really like either of these the first time I heard them. I thought he had a silly name and I was a bit confused by I Luv U. But there was other stuff on his album I liked.

The first track I heard from Skinner was Weak Become Heroes, I felt like how you feel when you record your voice and play it back, just sounded strange. But then I heard Has It Come To This and it was all good.

i ****ing hated La Dispute for the longest time. similar to how Jansz talks about Sunn O, they were my benchmark for bad music. parquet courts are another band that made a fairly poor impression on me. it wasn't hatred with them, more of a feeling that they made generic, bland, passionless cock rock. of course the deeper i explored their discography the more i realized how wrong i was.

While they're pretty good, Parquet Courts are pretty generic tbh.

I actually can't think of anything. Every time I've harbored a stubborn inexplicable disdain for some band or artist it ended up being for a good reason. (I experience the opposite more frequently-- going through old mix cds and not understanding how I used to be able to listen to certain artists.)
