Default They Might Be Giants

I am and have been for a long time a big fan of They Might Be Giants. They were so important for the idea of indie music. They were the first unsigned artist to be played on MTV back in the eighties, and while their output has been subpar as the band aged and went on to soundtrack and kids releases, the first four albums that chronicle's their move from lower east side art rockers to odd pop songsmiths are absolutely great.

A lot of people on the net are with me, but none of my personal "real life" friends agree with me.

okaaaay, well that pretty much sums it up. LOL

anyone wanna offer a genre or comparison?????

EDIT: Nevermind....I looked them up. Can't say I'm a super fan of what Wikipedia called "Post-Hardcore" but I do like some things that may be in that category like, Saves The Day and At The Drive-In, the Mars Volta, Hawthornes Heights and maybe even Hot Water Music, they really weren't my cup o' tea though.

because I like them and when i did a little internet digging their name came up as associated with that genre. all i know is that i like what i like and most music is not easy to put neatly into some "genre" and wrap it up all pretty with a bow. *shrugs*

I actually enjoy their soundtrack work too to a lesser degree.

The stuff they did for McSweeny's was pretty good. Although I believe they took a lot of that material to make Mink Car which was my favorite of their post Severe Tire Damage records.
