They're run of the mill hardcore. And screams are bad and the riffs are cheesy.

But some of the earlier screamo I can't get into i'm looking for bands like Chiodos, Underoath, and Alesana.

Okay, you are missing the point. Bands like Chiodos, UnderOATH, and Alesana are cheesy, metalcore, or really suck (respectively).
